Downloading Java SE 6 Update 51

Has anyone figured out how to actually download the latest v.6 Java update? They only list the v.7 stuff now on their standard download page. I found a page where you can download old versions, but it only went up to the last v.6 version - Update 43. The LANDesk bulletin says: "login Oracle Technical Network to get these patches" but after mucking around on the Oracle site for 15 minutes, I can find no such logon.

Thanks!

Computers keep getting asked to reboot

Hello, I want to start off saying I'm very new to LANDesk especially the patch manager portion. After some trial and error I got things up and running the way I want them, Autofix patches that dont require a reboot, and scheduled tasks for patches that do require rebooting. Well there hasn't been much of an issue, there are still a few computers on the network that are randomly being asked to reboot. I'm not pushing out any software and the patches that autofix say that they do not require a reboot. Can someone tell me whats going on? People seem to get frustrated when they are asked to reboot during the middle of the day. Thanks.

Installing patches that are not downloaded

Hi Everyone. If this is a duplicate thread I apologize. I couldn't find any others like it. We've been running patch management in the Management console verion 9.0.2.3 for a few months now with some positive results. Windows seems to have started patching after years of neglect out on our network. When I look at the Clean/Repair history of any given device, I see a lot of download failures (anywhere from 2 in 3 for the whole history to maybe 19 out of 20), and when I go to look at our server, sure enough those patches are not out there.

In our scheduled tasks, we have a nightly content download for detected patches, but I'm just curious as to why there are so many that it's missing that are apparently detected, but not downloaded to the core. Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Error "Cannot Find Agent "

We are getting the error "Cannot Find Agent" when we tried to deploy patches on to several clients remotely.

Close to 500 clients had resluted in the same error.

The status is showing OFF to all the machines,

Kindly suggest possible solutions as we have limited access to machines.

Patching: Replaced, Paritally replaced and Replacement not Enabled Folders

Noob question as I'm just switching over from WSUS to Landesk 9.0SP3 for client patch management. I've gone through numerous documents explaining patching, all of which cover the 9.0 SP1 or older version and don't explain what the 3 folders ("Replaced", "Paritally replaced" and "Replacement not Enabled Folders") under the Scan folder do.

Specifically, am I supposed to be moving patches around in these folders or are they positioned there by Landesk?

Also, when I grab patches to put into my custom group folders to create my repair (patch) task, am I copying the patches just from the "Scan" folder or do I also have to grab them individually also from the 3 subfolders too?.

I think I've got the rest down, these folders just make me wonder as they're not mentioned in the documents I've gone through. Searching the forums I wasn't able to find anything useful on them as well.

Thanks

Pete

Differences MSU and non MSU patches

$

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season. I am relatively new to Landesk patching, and there is one big question that I have been meaning to ask but never got around to it, so I'll go ahead and ask it now.

I find that when I'm patching systems, often I will have multiple versions of the same patch. For example, I might have:

MS13-099  (46 machines detected)

MS13-099_MSU (369 machines detected)

The MSU patch usually shows more machines as needing the patch, but since the number of detected machines differs so greatly, I usually deploy both patches to ensure that all machines needing the patch get it. Is this neccesary? What is the difference between the MSU version of the patch and the non-MSU version? Should I be deploying both or just the one with the higher number of detections?

I also run into this situation where I'll have some patches that have an INTL version and then a MUI_ENU version. I only want to deploy English patches but again sometimes the number of detections differs so greatly that I deploy both anyway to be safe. Any insight into this that can help me optimize our patch deployment is much appreciated. Merry Christmas!

Windows 7 patches failing on workstation (log attached)

While attempting to patch workstations I have one which appeared to fail on only Windows patches but Office, Adobe etc patched correctly.

The error details are - Error:"C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" returned failure code exit (2149842967)

I have attached the vulscan log.

If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know!

Thank you for reading.

Recently downloaded patches don't seem to be "replacing" older patches.

I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing odd behaviour regarding "Replaced" patches.

For example:

Google Chrome

I currently have patches listed from 43.0.2357.130 thru 44.0.2403.107.

There are 10 patches in total, each an increment in version #. Each patch is listed as "Replaced by" the patch ahead of it.

However, nothing shows up in the "Replaced" folder under Scan.

I would expect that these "replaced" patches would be filtered into that folder so that I can disable scanning for them.

This makes me wonder if these Chrome patches have a dependence on previous patches or if my LDMS just stopped working properly in this regard.

Thanks.

How to repair a hotfix with an .msu file

We've been noticing a Windows 7 bug documented in this KBase article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2486635

The hotfix only comes in MSU form though, and I'm not aware of a way to add this in using the typical distribution packages frame within LanDesk. Should we open a Enhancement Request or can this be done from SWD?

Almost all of our T410s have this issue. It only happens if Bluetooth Service is being disabled (as per the kb article).

Thanks,

Doug

Need to disable Windows 7 Restart or Postpone message

$

We want to use LANDesk for all of our patching needs.  However, when we push a patch out to a Windows 7 machine that requires a reboot, the-end user always gets the Windows Action Center message pop up that says "Windows can't update important files and services while the system is using them.  Make sure to save your files before restarting."  Windows then gives the end-user the options to "Restart now" or "Postpone" and "Remind me in:  (default is 10 minutes)."

At the same time, LANDesk Security and Compliance Manager also comes up (when all patching is complete) and tells the user a similar message (a message we CAN control in LANDesk).

We want to be able to control what options the end-user has.  For example, we want to be able to give the user the option of deferring a maximum of 3 times for no more than 4 hours at a time.  After that, we want to just force the reboot.  The problem arrises, particularly, when the end-user sees the Windows message and just clicks "Restart now" before LANDesk (vulscan.exe) actually finishes doing it's thing in the background.  This results in the task failing to install all the patches.  On the flip side of that, we don't want the user to just be able to keep "Postponing" forever.  We only want to give them a limited number of deferrels.

Basically, we don't want Windows to interact with the user at all with regard to Windows updates.  We want to control it all via LANDesk and LANDesk only.

Here's what we've tried so far:

Under the Windows Action Center, turning off basically everything:
actioncenter.png

After that didn't work, we tried to modify the following Group Policies as follows:

GPO.png

So far, we've still been unable to stop the Windows message from popping up.  Can anyone help us?  I find it hard to believe that no one has done this before.

Also, I forgot to mention we are running LDMS 9.5.  Thanks!

The previous system shutdown was unexpected

Hello All,

I am having a problem with a big percentage of our servers being patched with Landesk. When the Landesk client issues a reboot (if required for patching), when the server comes back up, we get "The previous system shutdown was unexpected" messages.

Anybody else noticing this problem? Core is 9.5 SP1.

Thanks

Patch replacement not working (Flashplayer v11.2.202.235)

Hello,

We installed Adobe Flashplayer ActiveX Version 11.1.102.63 per Software Deployment.

Now we want to patch this Version with Landesk Patchmanager.

The results of the scanjob is, that 3 patches are missing, see in attached file.

results.bmp

Problem now is, the newest patch called "Flashplayer v11.2.202.235" replaces the other both.

You can see this in per "Rightclick" on the patch.

This patch will be installed correctly, but the vulscan want to install the other both patches too, but it's not necessery.

In the logfile you can see an error message "Failure Patch not download"

(sorry the message is in german)

In the patchmanager console, you can see that the other both patches are not downloaded.

If you want to download them manual, there is are mark "NO" for able to Download.

Thanks.

How does LANDesk handle rescinded packages from Microsoft?

$

We have been handling our windows updates for servers by manual installation. Usually we wait at least two weeks after patch Tuesday, and then install updates, rebooting the servers off-hours. We would like to start using LANDesk for this, but I was curious about how it handles updates that have been rescinded by MS. For example, MS releases a patch, LANDesk downloads it (via scheduled task in our case), then a few days later they remove the patch because it causes massive issues. Does LANDesk detect this and remove the patch? We would set up a schedule to install the patches during a maintenance window, so we won't be just automatically installing anything that gets downloaded. Just want to be sure what happens with LANDesk, whether is removes the patch, marks it as not needed, or what.

Thank you!

Do Microsoft Office 2013 patches apply to Microsoft Office 365?

$

I was wondering if Office 2103 patches also patch Office 365?  Everything I find for patching Office 365 currently points to installing patches for Office 2013.  Also, even if Office 2013 cannot be installed to patch Office 365 is there any plan for LANDesk to offer patches for Office 365?

In Office 365 you can select to view updates and it carries you to the page below.  Then you can select to view the description of one of the update versions and the version changes show the patches for Office 2013.

Does LDMS 9.5 SP2 support .NET Framework 4.5.2??

$

I recently updated the Core Server with .NET Framework 4.5.2.  I didn't notice any problems until I tried to run Patches on a Test Group.  In the test group; there are 10 machines, each of the machines seem to fail downloading the patch from the server.  It hasn't had problems in the past.  We sent out patches to a set of 300 Servers, and the patches downloaded fine and we had a 96% success rate.  I'm not positive that is has to do with .NET update, it just so happens that it was updated after the patches were sent out to the Servers.  If there is any other ideas as to why it's failing, please point me in a direction.  We're trying to send out any patches that the machines are missing... I saw some posts about a similar issue in 9.5 SP2 that there was a beta patch and a fix in 9.5 sp3.  I'm not sure that is the answer, I just know that in other environments that I've been in, .NET updates was a culprit in a lot of "Weird" issues.

Let me know your thoughts; please!!

Thanks,

Kevin
