Hey Folks,
I need a little help, and I was hoping to get some insights and suggestions. We have a patch window coming up, and we want to patch both microsoft and java.
Microsoft are just the standard Critical / Important patches. For Java, we want to upgrade old java 7 to the newer java 7. We are 24/7 shop, so we need to be mindful of users that are still online. For microsoft patches, we just send the patches silent, and allow the users to snooze the reboot. This has worked very well for us. The challenge is that we want to patch java. In order to patch java, we need to verify that applications are closed out.
We could issue a command to close out all java apps before patching, but this will impact the user. We ideally want to patch java after the machine has rebooted from the Microsoft Patching. After the device has rebooted, we are sure that the user is not present and any java related apps are closed.
The problem is that I am not sure the best way to schedule this process out. Do you guys have any suggestions?
I was thinking of doing a Primary Task of MS Patches, and then a final task of Java. I am just not sure if LANDesk will reboot or not between the Primary and Final Task.
If I do two separate scheduled task, I am not sure when to scheduled the second Java update task to run.
I am open to suggestions.
