Best Way for replacing WSUS with LanDesk Patch Manager

Hello there,

up so far we were using WSUS for patching our machines. As I liked the way it works I am trying to mimic WSUS logic inside LanDesk. As I'm not a LanDesk expert I hope some of you have some ideas for what I'm doing:

Scanning:

Every update goes to the Scan group so I see which vunerabilities exists.

Scheduling Roll-Out:

The easy part. WSUS works with GPO settings and so I just use different Scan & Repair settings (time windows for server for example).

Selecting which Patches are installed:

I created several device groups (eg. "Servers", "Workstations", ..) where I drag & drop all relevant machines. Inside Patch Manager I created groups with the same names. And then I tried to make a Repair Task from every Patch Manager group with target = <device group>.

BUT I've the following problems or misunderstandings:

  1. It looks like I need to create a new repair task every time I add a patch to the appropiate Patch Manager group because the repair task contains a list of patches and not a reference to the group?!
  2. I can either download every patch or manually download the patches when creating the repair taks?!

The best way would be to just add patches to the patch manager group and/or devices to the device group and everything else is automatic.

Is this possible?

Thanks for your ideas and help,

Ronald
